Hi Squad,
It was great to see so many of you at the BBQ on Sunday. It was especially nice meeting some of our new members and catching up with those I haven’t seen in a few weeks.
With fall just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about training. Details for the Fall Swim Session are included below, and it’s also a good time to start planning for indoor spin classes. A few coaches have already started posting registration information, and these classes tend to fill up quickly.
Rachelle at R&R is offering a 1‑hour class on Thursday evenings; details are available here. Coach Sharon Styles also runs a Tuesday class, and I’ll share her registration information as soon as it’s available.
Just a reminder that the SLS Pool will be closed for maintenance starting September 1st.

Post‑Season Reset: Why Fall Recovery Matters
While a few of our members are still training for late‑season races, most of us have wrapped up our racing for the year. This transition period is one of the most important parts of the entire season — and often the most overlooked.
Take Time to Recover and Reset
After months of structured training, travel, racing, and juggling life around workouts, your body and mind need a genuine break. I’m a big believer in taking 8–10 weeks of unstructured training once the season ends. This doesn’t mean becoming inactive, it simply means removing the pressure of goals, pace targets, or training plans.
For me, that looks like staying active 4–5 times a week, but choosing whatever feels good that day. A run, a swim, a ride, or even better, a sport you didn’t have time for during the summer. Fall is the perfect season to enjoy movement for the sake of movement.
Personally, I love putting the tri bike away for a while and getting out on the gravel or mountain bike, or heading into the mountains for a hike with my dog Porter. It’s a great way to enjoy the season without the structure of race prep.
“But What About My Fitness?”
Yes, your fitness will drop a little. And that’s okay. In fact, it’s healthy.
Research consistently shows that giving yourself downtime after a long season leads to better long‑term performance than jumping straight back into hard training. Your body needs time to rebuild, and your mind needs time to recharge. Athletes who allow themselves a proper off‑season often return stronger, more motivated, and more resilient.
Embrace the Off‑Season
Fall is a chance to enjoy being active without a race looming over your shoulder. Reset, recharge, and let your fitness settle. When it’s time to start building again, you’ll be ready, mentally and physically.
