Week of June 1st
Hi Squad,
Footstock was a very cold and wet race this weekend! Thank you to everyone at the club who volunteered!

As we get set to start Open Water Swimming, here are a few pointers from Coach Michelle Barnes to help you out:
- Lifting your head too much to breathe
- Over‑kicking instead of using your arms for propulsion and saving your legs for the bike and run
- Crossing your arms over the centerline, which prevents you from swimming straight
- Panic breathing, breathing too often and not exhaling enough CO₂, which can lead to panic attacks and hyperventilation
- Swimming too hard at the start of the race
- No open‑water practice or wetsuit practice
- Not having a properly fitting wetsuit or not pulling it up correctly, which increases shoulder restriction
- Especially for lower‑volume swimmers, swimming too hard in the few days before the race
If you’re looking for a new wetsuit and want to try a different model, check out the demo nights that Rachelle Love is putting on. A properly fitted wetsuit that matches your swimming ability and fits properly can make a huge difference in your Open Water Swim.
